Very interesting press announcement from Google yesterday. They have now open sourced the tools behind GMail, Google Docs etc, calling it “Closure Tools”. I’ve been messing about with this stuff since yesterday and it’s all very promising.
The announcement seems to garner great response from the Ajax community. This ZDNet blog expresses massive ignorance on the matter. First off, Java is not underlying JavaScript. Secondly the author seems to think developers choose between using JavaScript and Microsoft AJAX Library. Well that statement is a big bag of wrong. Besides it not being logically sound, libraries such as jQuery, Prototype, MooTools and Dojo have just as if not greater following than earlier mentioned MS AJAX Library.
